Carlos Romo, M.D. (Co-Chief Resident)

At the time I applied for medical school my plans were to receive an education that would allow me to balance my work between research and clinical activities. During and after med school I was exposed to a wide variety of clinical disciplines. It was during this time that I found a new passion, the nervous system. Neurology is a very interesting field of medicine and many exciting advances are currently taking place in it. I am interested in being a part of the exciting discoveries that are changing the way we treat patients with neurological conditions, especially in the field of neuro-oncology. I am confident that the neurology residency program at UAMS will help me in achieving this goal.

I chose this residency program for multiple reasons, but mainly because of the people I met during my interview. The attending physicians and staff, as well as my now fellow interns and residents have created an excellent working environment. Intern year has been easier, knowing that our department’s staff is constantly available to help and to promote mutual feedback, even when I am rotating in other services.

Little rock has low cost-of-living, good neighborhoods, and of course Arkansas being the Natural State has great outdoor activities. I am still getting to know the city, the hiking tracks and making new friends. Even with a busy schedule with clinical and academic activities I have been able to participate in research and balance my time with personal life. Among other things I enjoy listening to classical music, going to the movies, climbing, reading and the good company of family and friends.
