Anand Patel, M.D.

I was born and brought up in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, the city of Mahatma Gandhi. I have been raised in a religious, well-educated and well-cultured middle class family. My father has played a key role in cultivating the seeds of dedication and honesty, and my family members taught me the virtues of sincerity since inception. Following in the footsteps of my father and sister, I entered medical school in India. After I finished internal medicine residency in India, I relocated to the US to pursue a career in a field of neurology which had always piqued my passion.

Here at UAMS, the only university hospital in the state of Arkansas, I have been exposed to the pathology of various neurological conditions, treatment options and outcomes. The easily approachable and always helpful faculty, strong didactics, excellent bedside teaching and hands on experience are few of the many assets of this program. For my future training, I decided to pursue fellowship in Vascular neurology. I find it a very interesting and appealing branch with constant advances and novel treatment options and I will start the fellowship in July 2014.

Outside work, I like to spend time with my family, my wife and son. I also enjoy long drives, reading, and watching movies. My career goal is to work in an academic institution where I would have the ability to participate in cutting-edge research and advanced patient care.
