Jamil Dibu, MD (Chief Resident 2013-2014)
I was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and raised in Lebanon. I attended undergrad and medical school at the American University of Beirut and graduated in 2010. Growing up around my dad, who is a neurologist, the field of medicine and more specifically, neurology was a clear career choice. UAMS was my choice for neurology residency for many reasons. My brother was already here for an internal medicine residency, but more importantly my mentor Dr. Harik was part of our faculty members before he retired in December 2012. I had the honor to work and learn from him the art of neurology.
Nothing beats Little Rock’s weather, amazing outdoors, trails and parks. Few months after I got to Little Rock, I caught the triathlon bug. I learned the art of all 3 disciplines (swim, bike and run) and started racing in 2012. During the past 2 years, I have competed in many races and finally reached the goal and dream I have chased since September 2010- Ironman in Louisville Kentucky. Truly, anything is possible. The triathlon lifestyle re-shaped my life and added even more discipline to my life, positively affected my work and helped me cruise through residency.
I am currently enjoying my 4th and last year of residency, especially being chief resident, an important year that is helping me mature and learn the art administrative work in addition to honing my clinical skills. I’m excited for what’s coming next. I will be heading to Cleveland for a busy Neurocritical care fellowship July 2014. My fellowship choice wasn’t a hard one as I discovered a passion in treating sick patients, as nothing beats the satisfaction in resuscitating and seeing one of your patients, after reaching death door, walking out of the hospital… Again, anything is possible!
