NeuroOncology

The UAMS Brain Tumor program provides comprehensive interdisciplinary care to patients with primary or metastatic brain tumors, tumors of the spinal cord and peripheral nerves, and for patients with neurological complications of systemic cancers. The program, based in the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS, is a collaboration between the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Neuroradiology, and other support services.

Dr. Shirley Ong, recently recruited to the Department, is the only fellowship-trained neurooncologist in the state of Arkansas. UAMS is also the only institution in Arkansas with a Gamma Knife that provides focused radiation treatments for tumors. Together with neurosurgeon Dr. J. D. Day, and with support of a variety of other specialists, the team coordinates all aspects of care from discovery and diagnosis through surgical treatments, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and ongoing support.

To make an appointment, please contact the UAMS Appointment center at 501-686-8000 or FAX 501-686-8504. Physicians can also use our online referral form. We require a physician referral to ensure that the patient will be seen by the appropriate specialist.
